Andrew’s Race for a Better Tomorrow: Running, Reflection, and Giving Back

Andrew’s Race for a Better Tomorrow: Running, Reflection, and Giving Back

Meet Andrew whose love for running began when a family member was diagnosed with cancer. Running became a way for him to escape, clear his thoughts, and manage everyday stress.

He enjoys the sense of freedom it gives and how it helps him reflect on life. Over time, Andrew has participated in several marathons, including races in London, Limassol, Larnaka, and New York.

Running for charity is especially meaningful to him, as it allows him to make a positive impact. This year he’ll be running in a dog costume to raise money for Merlin Haven Dog Charity in Frenaros.

What initially made you interested in running?

Running became important to me when a family member was diagnosed with cancer. It was a way to deal with the stress and emotions during that difficult time. I found freedom on the open road, a space where I could think, plan, and reflect on life. It gave me the clarity I needed and became a way to handle the everyday pressures of life.

Tell us your story, why you run.

For me, running is more than just exercise. It’s a way to clear my mind and collect my thoughts. When I’m out there on the road, it’s my time—just me and my thoughts. It helps me deal with the stresses of daily life and gives me space to focus on what matters.

Have you ever participated in any races or marathons for a charitable cause? What motivated you to combine running with supporting a cause?

Yes, I’ve run in so many races for charity over the years—probably too many to count! I’ve completed 10 marathons so far. Four of those were in London, another four in Limassol, two in Larnaca, and one in York. I’ve also lost track of how many half marathons and 10k races I’ve done.

Please give us more details if you are running for a specific cause this year.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing your efforts are helping someone or something. Running for charity makes a difference, and it’s fun too. This year, I’m going to run in a dog costume to raise money for Merlin Haven Dog Charity in Frenaros. It adds an extra layer of meaning to each race, knowing I’m helping out a cause I care about.
