Guiding the Way: Sandra’s Mission to Empower Through Running

Sandra runs not just for health and stress relief, but for the joy of exploring new places, experiencing nature, and making connections. She has been running for years with a group of blind athletes, guiding them through challenging races like triathlons, Ironman events, and Israman.

Sandra finds joy in sharing the experience with these strong athletes, describing the scenery, and encouraging them as they achieve great feats. This year, Sandra is running to raise funds for the group, aiming to support blind athletes and their dedicated volunteer guides. Her goal is to help them stay active and participate in races worldwide.

What initially made you interested in running?

Running has always been a way for me to stay healthy and keep my stress in check. But it’s become so much more than that over the years. I feel like every run offers a new experience and opportunity to connect with the world around me.

Tell us your story, why you run.

When I run, it’s like I’m exploring in every way—I see new places, historical sites, and different kinds of landscapes. I even encounter animals along the way! Over the years, running has introduced me to many wonderful people, too, and sharing those experiences with friends makes it even more meaningful.

For a while now, I’ve been running with an incredible group that includes blind athletes. It’s humbling to guide them, to be their eyes, and to share in their achievements. These are people who push themselves through races like triathlons, Ironman events, and other tough challenges. When people applaud their efforts, I feel so proud to be part of their journey and to help the world see how much they overcome every day.

Have you ever participated in any races or marathons for a charitable cause? What motivated you to combine running with supporting a cause?

Yes, I have! I’ve joined races that support children in hospitals, events that raise funds for women with cancer, and races dedicated to the memory of fallen soldiers. Each one feels special, knowing that every mile I run is making a difference.

Please give us more details if you are running for a specific cause this year.

This year, my main goal is to run for my group of visually impaired athletes. I want to raise funds to help them stay active, healthy, and connected. Running offers them freedom and confidence, and it keeps them from feeling isolated. It’s also a way to support the incredible volunteers who train and guide them. We’re hoping to cover the costs of race entries, and since some of our runners compete internationally, we’re looking to support their travel as well.
