A special presence will grace the Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon, as the 12-year-old Glikeria Skarkou from Greece will be participating in the 5k Race, in her first race abroad, making her biggest dream a reality!
Last spring, Glikeria Skarkou was one of the most exciting faces of the Athens Half-Marathon. Despite her young age, the 12-year-old runner became one of the event’s most wonderful surprises when she managed to take the third place in the 5km road with a time of 19.52.
The young runner’s success was emphasised since she was not thwarted neither by the rainy weather of that day nor by the slippery roads, something that caused a level of difficulty even to the most experienced of athletes. «Running is my whole life, wouldn’t trade it with anything» said the 12-year-old runner speaking of her dream to represent Greece in Marathons abroad.
«First of all I want to be healthy. Beyond that I believe every athlete’s dream is to wear its country’s National Team shirt and represent it abroad», Glikeria Skarkou stated following her success.
A dream that will come true next month in the Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon! Under the instructions of Panagiotis Haramis who trains her for three years, she prepares herself for the 5km road aiming once more to surprise everyone with her achievements, although nothing seems unachievable for the young athlete.
This period has been one of intense training and preparation for the 12-year-old runner from Greece, before she hops on a plane to Larnaka and make her wish come true.
