How Agios Christoforos Transforms Community Support into Action

How Agios Christoforos Transforms Community Support into Action

The charity center “Agios Christoforos” was founded in 1998 to help those in need across Cyprus.

Established by Father Evelthon and Mrs. Androula in memory of their late son, the organization provides a wide range of services, including free home-delivered meals for struggling families, elderly care, and support for children with special needs. They also offer financial aid to students, host cultural activities, and maintain a hospice for cancer patients.

Events like the Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon are crucial in raising awareness and funds to continue initiatives like the “Basket of Love,” which provides essential supplies to 300 families monthly.

Can you introduce your charity and provide an overview of its mission and purpose?

The Charity Center of Offering and Love, or “Agios Christoforos,” was established with the mission of offering direct, compassionate support to those in need. While our work is made possible by the contributions of individuals and organizations, we are deeply guided by faith and community values. Beyond distributing food, our programs include support for the elderly and disabled, hosting the “Faros Zois” school for children with special needs, and many other services. We aim to bring quality, dignity, and respect into the lives of those we serve.

What inspired the establishment of your charity, and what motivated its founders to address this particular cause?

The organization was founded by Father Evelthon and his wife, Mrs. Androula, after the unexpected passing of their son, who was studying medicine. They began with the idea of building a clinic to support his future medical career. However, after their loss, they chose to dedicate themselves to helping others, turning their grief into an ongoing mission of love and support for the community. This journey of compassion is at the heart of our organization.

Are there any specific populations or communities that your charity focuses on serving? What led to the decision to prioritize these groups?

We serve individuals and families throughout Cyprus, helping them through various programs like the “Basket of Love” and the Guest House for those in need. Every day, we listen to those who come to us, ensuring that no one leaves empty-handed. Beyond food, we provide clothing, essential products, and comfort. Our guiding policy is to meet people’s needs in any way we can.

What is the importance of events like the Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon to support your cause?

The Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon gives us a platform to connect with people across Cyprus and build awareness for our cause. It’s crucial for us to share our work and mission with a broader audience. Events like these empower us and strengthen our ability to continue supporting those in need, and it’s a wonderful way for participants to make a difference.
