The Miracle Babies Association is a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Makarios Children Hospital in Nicosia, Cyprus. We are a proud member of the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI). Our mission is to ensure that the NICU meets international standards, providing the best possible care for premature babies and allowing parents to be present with their newborns around the clock.
What inspired the establishment of your charity, and what motivated its founders to address this particular cause?
Our charity was inspired by the universal experience of prematurity. Many of us have been touched by the challenges of having a premature baby—whether as parents, grandparents, relatives, or friends. We recognized a critical need to enhance the care provided to these vulnerable infants and their families, motivating us to create an organization that could make a meaningful difference.
Are there any specific populations or communities that your charity focuses on serving? What led to the decision to prioritize these groups?
Our primary focus is on premature babies and their families. These infants are incredibly vulnerable and require specialized medical care to thrive. We prioritize this group because every child deserves a strong start in life, and we believe that supporting both the babies and their families during this critical time is essential.

They help us raise funds and increase public awareness about the challenges faced by premature babies and the importance of NICU care. The support we receive from such events allows us to continue our mission and make a real impact on the lives of these infants and their families.
Can you provide examples of individuals or communities who directly benefited from the funds raised from the Radisson Blu Larnaka International Marathon? How did their lives or circumstances improve as a result of your organization’s interventions?
With the funds raised, we have been able to make significant contributions to the NICU at Makarios Children Hospital. We donated a special ambulance worth €300,000, purchased essential medical equipment like a ventilator valued at €55,000, and supported training for NICU personnel. These efforts have directly benefited the babies and families who rely on the NICU for life-saving care.
